Developed in the Algorithmic composition seminar with Shlomo Dubnov, this Pd Patch allows you the composer to specify a trajectory through a variable number of iterations through which 3 different transformations can be done. These transformations are (1) expansion/contraction of the duration of the sample, (2) pitch transposition, (3) contraction and expansion of the spectrum and (4) inversion of frequencies. The main idea is that we can perform the basic serialist techniques directly onto audio + some digital techniques applied to the spectrum in a progressive way, marking trajectories that could be used compositionally.
The first thing the algorithm does is to calculate what is the first frequency in a melody. Then, with respect to that melody it can contract and expand the spectrum, invert the melody and transpose it. To do this it uses three phase vocoders and frequency shifters.
Get the patch and abstractions here. This patch includes a recreation of GRM Tools Pitch Accumulator
Below are some samples of results. In this case, the first file is the original, and the other two are some processed ones.
These others are done with whistlers, the pitch accumulator recreation is also used, it should be easily recognizable.
