Developed for the Generative Design seminar with Shlomo Dubnov, this Patch tries to simulate the behavior of a flock of birds formed by a leader and four followers. When the leader changes position, the followers evaluate their relative position to the leader and to the other three followers, determining thus, the position in which they should put themselves, according to a previous knowledge of the rules of organization of the flock.
In this particular case, the algorithm has been applied to frequencies, but it could be applied to other parameters. In the same way, the patch controles 5 oscilators, but it could control other parameters or synthesis engines. A project is on it'sway to control a PAF (Phase Aligned Formants).
The algorithm results specifically interesting when in the absence of the leader, the followers listen to their own frequencies (putting the microphone in front of the speakers), therefore, following themselves, generating interesting bevavioral patterns.
On the left you can see some graph snapshots of this behaviour. Below, you can download the patch. Please let me know what kind of uses you are giving to it or if you need some assitance in figuring it out.
below are some sample sounds of the flocker.
